Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the TBUN (Link–Differentiate–Repeat–Sing) method in improving students’ reading proficiency in low-literacy environments. The research background highlights the persistent issue of low early reading skills and comprehension among elementary school students, especially in areas with limited literacy resources. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation at SD Negeri 050601 kec.kuala kab.Langkat The subjects included 10 students in grades II–III, 2 teachers, and 1 principal. The findings indicate that the TBUN method significantly improved reading performance, particularly in fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. Students became more confident in reading aloud, better at distinguishing letter sounds, and showed increased interest in reading activities. The success of this method lies in its multisensory and contextual approach, combining visual, auditory, and kinesthetic elements along with songs that enhance phonological memory and vocabulary retention. Overall, the TBUN method is proven to be relevant and effective for schools in low-literacy settings as it bridges the gap between reading theory and practical classroom application
