Abstract

This study aims to examine the epistemology of Islamic economics from the perspective of philosophy of science. Islamic economics is not only understood as an economic system based on Islamic values, but also as a scientific discipline grounded in a strong epistemological foundation derived from revelation and reason. This study is important to understand how the sources, methods, and validity of knowledge in Islamic economics are systematically constructed within the framework of the philosophy of science.

The method used in this research is library research with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected from various literature sources such as books, scientific journals, and articles relevant to the topic of Islamic economic epistemology and philosophy of science. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.

The results show that the epistemology of Islamic economics is derived from revelation (the Qur’an and Sunnah) as well as reason through the mechanism of ijtihad, which includes ijma’ (consensus) and qiyas (analogy). The integration of revelation and reason makes Islamic economics dynamic and adaptive to contemporary developments without abandoning its core Sharia principles. In addition, Islamic economic epistemology emphasizes that Islamic economics is not only oriented toward rational and material aspects, but also contains moral and spiritual dimensions.

Thus, the epistemology of Islamic economics plays an important role in strengthening the scientific legitimacy of Islamic economics as a comprehensive, systematic, and relevant discipline in addressing modern economic challenges
